Tuchel's First Chelsea Game Premier League Records

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was held to a 0-0 draw with Wolves on his first game but the hosts at least managed to break a pair Premier League records during.

The German’s new side registered the highest amount of possession (78.9 per cent) and most passes (820) ever seen in a new manager’s first Premier League match – although records only begin from the 2003/04 campaign.

Despite their record possession and passing figures, though, Chelsea were unable to make the all-important breakthrough and return to winning ways after their 2-0 defeat away at Leicester in Lampard’s final league outing.

Kai Havertz almost snatched a win for the hosts with the last kick of the game, only for his goal-bound header to be blocked by a Wolves defender.

Nevertheless, Tuchel was more than encouraged by what he saw from his Chelsea players in their first outing together.

He told BBC’s Match of the Day: “I enjoyed it a lot because I was very happy with the intensity, the attitude, energy and quality of my team, we were well organised, had a lot of ball recoveries in the last third, never lacked intensity.”
