Liverpool Winger Mohamed Salah offered the greatest hint that he wants his Anfield future resolved with the offer of a new, improved contract.
Salah offered what seemed a pointed message to Liverpool’s owners when he insisted he wants to stay for the rest of his career, and “win as many trophies as possible.”
Asked by Norwegian channel TV2 about his future, Salah delivered a positive reply that will have his fervent Reds fanbase cheering.
But it also puts pressure on the Anfield board to start contract negotiations in earnest.
When pressed on where talks are at, he said: “Frankly, I do not know. I want to stay in Liverpool for as long as possible, but the fact is, the matter is in the hands of the club.
“If you ask, I say I want to stay here as long as I can – I will always give 100 per cent until the last moment for me in this club, and I want to win as many trophies as I can.
“I want to give 100 per cent to the people, who show me love all the time.”
The Egyptian star first hinted at his dissatisfaction over potential contract talks, in an interview which seemed carefully placed by his advisor with a Spanish media outlet, where he didn’t rule out a move one day to either Barcelona or Real Madrid.
But the harsh financial reality facing football after massive losses because of the coronavirus crisis makes huge moves of the level he would command seem out of reach this summer.
