Mourihno FA CUP

Jose Mourinho has admitted that competing in the FA Cup will always be special to him due to his memories of watching the competition while growing up in Portugal.

The FA Cup is not only the world’s oldest cup competition but also the domestic cup competition that historically has arguably carried the most prestige across the world.

Tottenham have a rich history in the competition, having won in eight times but it has been almost 30 years since the club last got their hands on the trophy.

Mourinho has more experience in the cup than most due to his time at Chelsea, Manchester United and now Spurs.

The Portuguese coach won the competition with the Stamford Bridge outfit in 2007 and he admitted that the memories of his childhood came flooding back when he got his hands on the trophy.

Mourinho’s men travel to Wycombe Wanderers in the fourth round this evening which the North Londoners head into as overwhelming favourites.

However, the Spurs boss knows only too well that the game is not won on paper, with his Chelsea side having been beaten by League One Bradford City in the fourth round in 2015.

Speaking ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Wycombe, Mourinho told the club’s official website: “When I won it, I felt amazing feelings because it brought me back to the times when Portugal stopped.

“There weren’t many matches, foreign matches, on TV and the FA Cup Final was always there.

“It brought me back as a kid to getting in love with some clubs, with some players, unforgettable moments, the memories of my dad, and, for me, the FA Cup will always be the FA Cup, for me, always special.

“However, I don’t like it too much when the giant that is killed is my team!”
