Chelsea boss frank Lampard is under pressure at stamford bridge . Chelsea boss frank Lampard is safe for the time being but Brendan Rodgers has admirers at Stamford Bridge,  according to reports .

The leicester boss has  guided his side to third in the Premier League table,  behind only Liverpool and Manchester United .  Lampard,  meanwhile , is under pressure in the wake of his side’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City.

Chelsea were planning for a top two finish at the start of the campaign after spending over 250 million pounds in the transfer market on the likes of  Kai havertz ,  Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech .

However,  Lampard has overseen a turbulent campaign in west london so far. Chelsea have lost four of their last six premier league matches with sunday’s  3-1 loss to Manchester City particularly chastening .

For now,  the 42-year old’s job is safe . But ESPN claim Rodgers  ‘has admirers’  at Stamford Bridge- having previously spent time at Chelsea as a coach.

The leicester boss was a member of staff during the Jose Mourinho and Andre villas- Boaz eras and ,since departing , has done well in management.

Chelsea for now are unwilling to wield the axe . They don’t want to pull the trigger on Lampard due to his popularity among supporters , with the former midfielder the club’s all time leading goalscorer,  he also has credit in the bank after guiding the club to fourth in the Premier League table last term,  despite not having a penny to spend on transfers .

and whether Lampard can lift his side and steer them towards the top of the table is something only time will tell.  The blues boss praised Rodgers last year,  admitting his Leicester counterpart stood out during his spell with the club. “My personal relationship with him is more here, “  he said. “ I have a huge respect for him . He produces players and coaches.  His first team staff shows that. “He stuck out for his thirst for knowledge.”

Meanwhile,  Danny Murphy thinks Chelsea should stand by Lampard because of the way Ole Gunner and Solskjaer  and Mikael Artita have turned things around at Manchester United and Arsenal.  “I think he does know his best 11 and it’s very rare he’s had the opportunity to play it together , “ Murphy told BBC’s Match of the Day 2.

“I  think they’ll get better . Give him time, don’t do anything silly, I know Chelsea have done in the past we have seen with Arteta and Ole, things can improve , just be patient “.

But murphy was not impressed with Chelsea’s performance against Manchester City,  insisting that Lampard’s players did not do “the basics”  well enough during the 3-1 loss.
